Did I see a ghost at Throwley
Hall?
Late at night on the 5th of January, 2006 some of the usual gang
decided to jump in the car and go off to Throwley Hall in Staffordshire,
we decided to take the scenic route and followed the moor land country
lanes over the peak district and into Derbyshire. Even though Toby
(another member of our group) had indeed been to this place before
“in the daytime”. I had only seem pictures
and read some of the articles on the Internet, This being said,
I was ready and waiting to see what spooky findings laid in store
for us on our arrival.
As we where drawing near, Toby informed me, that the access road
to the hall was actually through a nearby farmyard, I believe this
was Throwley Hall farm? It did seem rather strange, in-fact; it
was rather off putting Parking up in someone’s yard and having
to open-up their gates to go in.
Driving down the road to the old hall we looked round in hope, praying
to see the golden haired boy, one of the claimed haunts at this
location, it is said he can be found wondering the grounds asking
people to help him on his way home, but… if you ask him about
the hall it is said he burst’s into tears.
As Toby asked me to pull over and park up, I never noticed the hall
situated to our left, it was hard to believe this hall was only
a few feet away yet it was so dark we could only make out the silhouetted
outline against the midnights sky. Turning up at 12:15 I really
hoped we were not too late, it is said around midnight a headless
woman can be seen around the hall and As we got our stuff together
and went through the gate leading up to the hall “anticipations
heightened” in the hope of a ghostly sighting, Nothing
seemed to be happening as we walked around the place taking pictures
and asking for a ghostly sign, so the sandwiches came out and a
nightly feast began, it was at this time I decided to set-up my
digital recorder in the main hall area and leave it recording.
Taking my torch and being followed closely by the dog, off I went
in search of a good place to set-up my equipment, as I turned and
entered the area in question, and just for a split second, I was
presented by the image of a person standing in the corner, I managed
to keep my cool and told myself it was nothing more then imagination
or a trick of the light, but it was enough to make my hart skip
a couple of beats.
No more then ten min’s later, I was again walking around the
property dog lead in hand, when phoebe (the dog this is the dog
just for anyone that has not worked that out) stopped in her tracks
and started to look strongly across the field, this was only a matter
of two to three feet away from the corner I had earlier seen some
kind of image, ghostly or not.
Then came the strange sounds, sounds of what can only be described
as chains and someone or something choking? Strangely enough, I
did not run off in fear, but I rather call Toby over to have a listen,
sadly the sounds seemed to stop when Toby came over, even though
there was some quieter and equally as strange noises coming from
the general direction. We later found this to be animals in some
kind of hut, not that I’m 100% sure this is what I heard on
the first occasion, but I am happy to be convinced it was not a
headless ghost with a chain and ball heading over the field towards
me.
There was one really odd thing though as we were leaving and stood
by the car myself and Toby both thought we heard a scream coming
from the old halls general direction? Unless the residents like
to scream out there windows in the early hours, this could be a
bit of a mystery.
The place was amazing and its hard to see why its been left to ruin
or why it seems to be so quite when its located only a few feet
from some houses and next to a farm, Sadly, we didn’t stay
for too long and I don’t seem to have anything on my recorded
sound, but I have to admit it was one of the best places I have
been to date and I’m sure I will one day go back, and hopefully
find some form or ghostly activity.
