Lady
Lovibond, Goodwin Sands
7 miles off the coast of Deal in Kent,
this notoriously hazardous and dangerous stretch of shifting sands
is 10 miles in length. Goodwin Sands is a graveyard for ships
who have sunk in its foreboding waters. It is said that 50,000
people lost their lives on the sandbank. This stretch of water
is the home of one gruesome manifestation, the phantom ghost ship
of the Lady Lovibond a three-mast schooner. The vessel was bound
for Oporto, Portugal, with a cargo of flour, meat, wine and gold.
The ship was lost on the 13th February 1748. The Captain Simon
Peel was celebrating on his honeymoon with his new wife, when
Rivers the ships mate deliberately ran the ship aground in a jealous
rage. All hands were lost to the dark sea, on that fateful night,
and this grim story is said to re-enact itself every 50 years
on the anniversary of the disaster. Fishermen have reported a
vessel trapped on the sands but upon further investigation each
time no wreck or sign on the ship has been found. On Feb 13th
1898 and Feb 13th 1948 the ghost ship has been seen by several
other ships in the area.

The
Flying Dutchman
The most famous of ghost ships The Flying
Dutchman, which hit rocks and sunk during a heavy storm in 1641.
The phantom ship of legend appears during stormy weather off the
Cape of Good Hope, at Africa's southern tip. It is feared by mariners
as an omen of disaster, and they say that if you look at the ship
you will die a horrible death.
When the Dutch ship was sinking the Captain of the vessel, van der
Decken (who knew his death was looming) shouted out "I WILL
round this Cape even if I have to keep sailing until doomsday!".
The ghost ship has been reported many times, even by the crew of
a German submarine boat during World War II. On 11 July 1881, the
Royal Navy ship, the Bacchante sighted the phantom. The midshipman,
a prince who later became King George V, recorded that the lookout
and the officer of the watch had seen the Flying Dutchman.
"A strange red light as of a phantom ship all aglow, in
the midst of which light the mast, spars and sails of a brig 200
yards distant stood out in strong relief."
It was reported that the lookout fell from a mast and died, shortly
after seeing the phantom ship.

The
Queen Mary
The Luxury Liner is now retired and permanently
moored in Long Beach, California, USA.
Door Number 13
A 17 year old boy was crushed to death while trying to escape a
fire at Door 13, during a routine watertight door drill on July
10, 1966 (in the engine room). Strange knocking noises have been
heard from the door and it has even felt hot for no plausible reason.
Passengers and crew have reported seeing a young bearded man in
blue overalls walking up to door 13 and promptly vanishing.
The Playroom
Paranormal manifestations have also occurred in the Third-Class
children's playroom. A a baby Leigh Travers Smith died very soon
after birth. Un earthly cry's of a baby have been heard coming from
this playroom.
The First-Class Swimming Pool
Ghostly sounds of parties and people laughing and shouting have
been heard in the ships pool when no one has been in the area. Wet
footprints mysteriously appear from nowhere before peoples eyes,
as if someone is walking from the pool. There have also been reported
sightings of ghostly women dressed in old-fashioned bathing suits,
wondering around the decks near the pool area.
Lady in White
The front of the ship is home to the manifestation of a ghostly
woman in white who walks until blocked from view by a pillar. She
is seen in The Queen's Salon which used to be the First-Class passenger
lounge. The ghostly woman is reported as being very beautiful and
is dressed in a white evening gown.
