Investigations
If you are convinced that a case warrants
further interest, preparation before you start to conduct and investigation
is key to its success. Seek out any documents or maps and records
of an area (these can sometimes be accessed online or in local libraries).
These documents may provide clues to the reported phenomena. Taking
witness statements is also vital, talking to those who have experienced
unexplainable apparitions will tell you a lot about a case.
Check to see if witness statements conflict and if so ask yourself
why this might be. Record everything you see and hear and take notes
as often as possible. Take note of names, dates, times etc and try
and notice any discrepancies.

Fraud
Before you start ghost hunting it is recommended
that you first establish whether a case is genuine and worth further
investigation. It is sometimes necessary to try and find out to
the best of your ability if reported phenomena has really taken
place and is not just in the imagination of the individual claiming
a ghost sighting.
The odds are that 90% of haunting's will
have a rational, or natural explanation. So always examine evidence
well and give every possible explanation careful consideration before
jumping to a ghostly conclusion.

Ghost Busting Equipment
On a typical ghost hunting expedition take
a camera! spare film and batteries, pens and note paper are also
important items. Sound recording equipment such as a tape recorder
or even better a digital movie camera. Thermometers, and a torch
with spare batteries. Also in your kit bag you should carry a tape
measure, (tape to seal rooms), mirrors, candles and matches. Each
person on an investigation should wear a watch, and all watches
should be synchronised. Containers for evidence such as envelops
would also be very useful.

Advised Procedures
During an Investigation.
Objects can be used to establish activity.
Leaving items such as a bible, crucifix, or small toy etc around
an area and drawing a chalk outline around the objects can help
to see if they are moved. Trip wires can be useful in finding movement
when you are not in a room. Spreading sugar over a sheet of newspapers
over the floor will also trap footprints. Frequent checks to equipment
are recommended to maintain their reliability.
